My Mother’s Recipe Box

Remember the days when cookbooks weren’t so easily available, and you or your mommy relied upon just one or more different recipe books for cooking every one of your household’s meals? I still have my mother’s old cookbooks, in addition to my grandma’s. If you turn via the scruffy pages it is obvious which dishes were turned to time and time once again, each one is put on from age and usage–. These cookbooks will certainly always number among my most priceless prizes.
When our mothers wanted to attempt new recipes, they more than likely didn’t run out and buy new recipe books. They commonly didn’t have the extra money to invest, and frequently there weren’t very many to pick from. Where did they obtain new recipes? From each various other.
When I was a child I remember my mom trading recipe cards with pals and family members and bringing them home and submitting them away in her dish box. I constantly enjoyed going through her dishes (although she often angered at me for getting them all out of order!).
All the years while I was discovering just how to cook I underwent her recipe box over and over again, taking out my favored recipes and preparing them over and over.
I additionally like looking back at all the recipe cards I prepared myself while I was in 4-H and invested much of my time learning just how to prepare. To this day, all I have to do is open my recipe card box, and I am instantaneously transported back in time.
My mom hasn’t traded dish cards with anybody in greater than 20 years. I have very few of my very own (although I intend to acquire hers someday!) But even to this particular day there is no better location to discover favored household recipes than in my mommy’s recipe box.
Twenty years from now, I look forward to experiencing my recipe box with my own child, informing her stories concerning where all of my different dishes originated from.
